5 Benefits of An On-Site Fitness Center in an Active Adult Community

It is so nice to have a fitness center right here in our Village at Deaton Creek community. It’s that time of the year when it’s a little easier to stay in shape. Thanksgiving is several months away, and most of us are out and about, enjoying the sunshine. Still, exercise is important—no matter what season we’re in! Here are FIVE benefits of my on-site fitness center.

1. Convenience

Our fitness center is one mile from my home. Many people just walk down to the fitness center, but I usually drive the 3 minutes to get to our clubhouse. There’s really no traffic between my house and the fitness center. I’m in and out in an hour or less. Plus, the fitness center’s operating hours are Monday through Saturday 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Basically, it’s open just about any time you want to visit!

2. Personal Trainer

Here at our Del Webb Community, we have a personal trainer in our gym 3 days a week.  She works as an independent contractor but also gives free instructions on how to use the fitness equipment. Talk about a benefit! Plus, did you know that working with a personal trainer may improve your mobility and prevent disease? Even more benefits!

3. Variety

Our gym boasts a long line of treadmills and a couple of rows of recumbent bikes. We also have a free weights section, punching bag, stretching pad, and a barre area with a mirror. Our equipment is in good condition and replaced with newer models often. I like that our equipment is kept in good repair and replaced with newer models often.

4. Classes

Our aerobics room is well-equipped with all kinds of resistance equipment and a couple of free-weight racks. This room is used for organized exercise classes, like the Cardio Sculpt class. I’ve taken Cardio Strength & Tone, Zumba Gold, and several dance classes as well.

5. Indoor and outdoor pools

When you live in Georgia, a pool is a major asset during those blisteringly hot summer months. Of course, we have an indoor pool, with a couple of lap lanes set up for those really dedicated swimmers. The fitness center even offers swimming classes! I haven’t tried any of those out, but the folks in the water aerobics class sure do seem to have a lot of fun!

In conclusion, there is a wide range of benefits that accompany an on-site fitness center. So, if you’re on the hunt for an active adult community, I’d definitely recommend looking for ones that have fitness centers or gyms. Oh, and make sure a hospital is also nearby. But that’s another article for another time.
