Top 3 Things Boomers Want in Retirement
Recently, I read an article that posed an interesting question.
What do we Boomers want most in our retirement years?
The article caught my eye since I’ve read just about everything about retirement. Turns out, it was only a sales promotion by a financial advisor. You know the type. One of those ones that warn Boomers that we’re doomed, because they don’t think we’ve saved enough for retirement and we need their help. Under a large photo of a retired couple, with the man’s hands clasping his head, was a caption that read: Have we saved enough for retirement?
Personally, I find these sorts of articles distasteful and unhelpful to those who actually need help. But, like most things in life, there was a grain of truth in it. So, that got me thinking. What do we Boomers want most in our retirement years? Here are what I believe to be the top 3 universal retirement wants.
1. Financial Security
To live in a 55+ Active Adult Community, at least the large ones, you need to have some financial resources. By no means do you have to be wealthy, but you need to have some money. Most people who live in these communities have successfully saved funds for a good retirement. That said, I think living in an Active Adult Community may help you protect your financial security. Sure, you’ll have some expenses, but living in an active adult community may help you reduce living expenses, too! You may save money on food, entertainment, and even landscaping costs.
2. Health
Active Adult Communities are excellent in providing all sorts of physical and mental activities to keep you healthy. Physical activities include walking, swimming, pickleball, softball, and many more. Of course, mental activities are important, too. These communities provide forums and learning opportunities, games, and activities to keep your mind working. Plus, most of these communities are located near a hospital and medical centers. One-level living, with higher counter tops, commodes, and many other features, promotes safer and easier living.
3. Companionship
Residents can enjoy calendars, brimming with social opportunities for just about every day of the week. You can just walk out your door, and pretty soon you’ll be talking with someone. Some activities occur several times a week. You get to know those who share the same interests as you do. For the singles out there, there are formal single clubs and informal single groups that do things together. Whether you’re married or single, you’ll never lack friendship or social opportunities in an active adult community! You can live your best retirement life, with peace of mind, good health, and wonderful friends.
Now, that is what I call the good life.
