5 Benefits of Walking Alone
Many in our active adult community like walking alone. While walking with a walking partner or group is fun, going solo can be wonderful, too! Here are 5 benefits of walking alone.
1. You can walk at your own pace.
Setting the pace when walking with somebody else is difficult. The good thing about walking alone is that you can set the pace. You can go as fast or slow as you like. Additionally, you can pick your path and change your course without having to check with another person. Whether you want to walk one lap or five miles, you get to decide.
2. You can set your own schedule.
Walking groups tend to run a tight ship. The majority rules. If they want to walk in the morning, you’ll have to refrain from hitting that snooze button. If they want to walk in the evening, you’ll have to eat dinner and be out the door. However, walking alone means you get to follow your own schedule! You can leave for a walk on the spur-of-the-moment!
3. You have more time to enjoy nature.
Let’s be honest. When you’re walking with a group, you don’t have to sit back and smell the roses. Chances are, you’ll have to keep up with the conversations. And while that’s fun sometimes, it’s also good to enjoy nature! When you walk alone, you can soak in the quiet and take in more of your environment. It’s a great soul-refresher and palate cleanser. What an awesome benefits!
4. You can listen to music.
Walking in silence, with only the birds and insects as accompaniment, is nice sometimes. However, so is walking with music! I have some headphones and boy, is it ever fun to throw on some tunes and start walking! The Beatles always get my heart pumping. Of course, I’ll listen to just about anything with a good beat! It makes walking alone an unforgettable experience.
5. You can stop to stretch or rest anytime you want.
When you walk in a group, you can’t just stop to take a breather anytime you want, or you’ll get left behind! However, if you’re walking by yourself, you don’t have to worry about that. So, if your calves or lungs need a quick break, you can stop whenever you’d like. If you want to take a bathroom break, nobody is stopping you but yourself. This is truly one of the many benefits of walking alone!
